Seat Belts Rock

A little history:  During the 2009 – 2010 school year, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) tested a campaign to increase seat belt use among teen drivers — the population group with the highest incidence of unbuckled fatalities. High schools in five counties displayed prepared materials — including parking lot banners, lawn signs, posters, and window decals — on their campuses four times over the school year. All of the materials carried a teen oriented “buckle up” message and were provided at no cost.

In February 2011, TxDOT introduced the first year of our similar three-year program to high schools across Texas. During this first wave, more than 550 schools signed up statewide to receive materials, and our efforts have resulted in as much as a 9.1 percent increase in the number of teen drivers using seat belts, according to findings from TxDOT and NHTSA.

You can see some of their ideas on how to they used the materials under the “School Pics” section on this website. These materials included posters, banners, lawn signs, window decals, game and prize ideas and more — all provided at no cost to your school.

Next steps: We’d greatly appreciate your school’s participation in this important lifesaving program. If you would like to sign up for free materials, please fill in the information below. By receiving materials, you agree to display materials on your campus during the next waves of the campaign (February 2012 and February 2013)
