Ok so this is really a story but could someone tell me what the B-R-B D-I-E poster stands for?

    • Von says:

Seatbelt on: B-R-B = Be right back.
      Seatbelt off: D-I-E = Die.

BRB is internet lingo commonly used by this demographic.

29 years ago tonight, i was in a horrific car accident. i was 8 months pregnant. our car flipped tail over front an estimated 7 times. I had my seatbelt on… the windshield of our chevette blew out almost immediately, my seatbelt held me in…my water broke during the accident, but the seatbelt held me in…my collar bone was broken during the accident, from the seatbelt’s strength, but my son survived! he is 29 years old tomorrow…March 21st! No one can tell me seatbelts don’t save lives!
My son and I are living proof!

    Leroy James Martinez
on november 25, 2008 A close friend of mine was coming home from a football game … him and his friends were doing dusters while driving… it was raining very bad out and some werent wearing their seatbelts … the driver passed out and leroy decided to take off his seatbelt and take control of the wheel when it was too late… he had crashed into a concrete sign and had instantly gone braindead. We all miss him dearly and wish his smile would still be here. Unfortunately doing the right thing lead to death.

We miss you Hun:) you will be in our memories and our hearts forever.

Last year my 14 yr old friend, her mom, her 15 yr old sister, and her sisters bf, were coming to a cheer competition in Dallas. my friend was in the passenger and her sis and the bf were in the back, both without seat belts. They were driving down a highway with only a dirt median when a truck started swerving too close to them and their mom lost control while trying to avoid it. The bf had brain trauma, and although he came out with no mental damage in the end, he can’t do sports or a lot of his other hobbies. Her sister broke her hip, and now has no future cheer career, she was going to get a scholarship. My friend, though in the front seat, only broke her arm and had bruises and scratches. Their mom died. The car flipped vertically 4 times. They had another 8 yr old sister at home, and now all 3 daughters have to grow up without a mom. The reason i told this was because maybe if the sis or bf had said, “Hold on mom, let me buckle up.” they might have a mom. Or they could still have the future they originally wanted.

I was living in Houston in 1988 when I was involved in a severe car wreck. I drunk driver drove through a stop sign doing about 70 mph and hit me. I flew through a fence, over a gas meter, and into a house. I was not wearing a seat belt so when the paramedics came, I was hanging out of the window. I had to be life-flighted to the trauma center of Houston, Hermann Memorial hospital on life support. This is the same place that Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford is at now. Fortunately I was able to overcome my injuries but I wish I had been wearing a seat belt. Perhaps I wouldn’t have had so many injuries.

My Car Accident On November 28, 2006

I was in a bad car accident in San Angelo, Texas. I was hit by a truck. I flipped in the air 3 times before I finally landed, on the driver side with my left arm stuck under the car. It took the fire fighters about an hour to get me out. They had to cut the roof off. I couldn’t feel my legs for like an hour after they pulled me out of the car. I was so scared because I was all alone. I remember pieces of what was going on in my mind. I remember when they pulled me out of the car they told me my dad was there and I remember screaming his name “Daddy”! My dad said that was the worst thing to hear me screaming his name and he couldn’t help me. I was wearing my seat belt and that’s what saved my life. I went to Lamesa and told my story with the students from there. I even have the Summit Shirt and the 6000 shirt. I would still like to tell my story to students around the world and ask them to wear a selt belt. Thank you for reading my story.

    In Loving Memory of Cynthia

it was like two weeks ago my friend Cynthia was talking to me one night saying she was gonna go out, i told her it was too late but she said she was still going with her friends. She left and the next thing i heard was that a girl died in a car crash, she crossed my mind but i thought it couldn’t be her. The next day i saw the news and it was on there that cynthia c. died in a car wreck and she flew out the window because she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt. they were street racing and when they tried exiting the freeway here in monroe the driver lost control and hit a tree light post before she flew out. they took her to ben taub hospital where she was pronounced dead and sometimes i blame myself for not trying to stop her and everyday after work i still go visit her house and just stop by to say hi to her. she lives like five streets down from me!!!! i miss my friend so much she was the first girl i loved but we decided to keep it as friends!!! i just wish i could talk to her one more time!!!!! i hope no one goes through this because it’s not a happy road, now I’m careful when i drive because i don’t want to leave the people i love but she knows i love her with all my heart!!!!!!!

    Unforgettable year

On September 23, 2006 me and my friend Maegen A. were on our way to Dallas when she got a call. At school Megan M., a sophomore at our school, had just been in a terrible accident right in front of school at the beginning of lunch. She had pulled out too far at the intersection and was hit by a truck on the driver’s side. she was not wearing a seatbelt but the passenger was. When the car was hit her door opened and she was thrown from the car, it ended up on top of her. Maegen’s dad had worked the wreck he knew when he saw it that she was not going to make it. She lived for three more days at the hospital. Our school was very devastated by this especially since most of the school saw the wreck. Then just three months later Maegen was stopped on the side of the road to help a friend, she got out of her truck and stood talking to them when a drunk driver swerved and hit her. She was a very friendly person she touched everyone’s life in some way. That same night our other friend Cody J. and his girlfriend Breyonna N. of last year’s graduating class were driving at high speeds down a curve when he overcorrected himself causing them to slide into the ditch and hit a tree. Neither of them made it. This was the most depressing week our school ever had. three funerals in one week it was so unreal. Then four months later Yessica P. was driving at high speed playing around and swerving when she swerved into a tree. She was wearing her seatbelt, so was the girl she had riding with her but when she hit the tree it pinned her in the car. The car caught on fire and blew up, the passenger got out but Yessica did not make it. So in the 2006-2007 school year we lost one freshman, Yessica, one sophomore, Megan, two seniors, Maegen and Cody, and one teague high graduate of 2006 Breyonna. I think our school has had a fair share of teen driving accidents and i hope they have at least taught the teens in my school that driving needs to be taken seriously.

  12. Miracles Do Happen

On Saturday, December 6, 2008, in Garland, TX, many lives were changed in an instant. My son, along with many of his good friends were headed back to a party. There were 3 cars, 2 friends in the front car, which was a convertible Corvette, my son was in the car behind them with some friends, and the 3rd car was back a ways behind them. The driver of the Corvette started speeding and horsing around (to a teen that’s no big deal) and before he knew it, he hit the curb on the right which forced the car to the left out of control, hitting a pole causing the Corvette to flip. Neither of them were wearing seat belts and the passenger was ejected from the car landing in the road. The driver was held in the car by the steering wheel and luckily was not injured. Every teen in the 2nd car, including my son, saw the whole accident happen. They watched as their friend was thrown from the car landing on the road. Of course they stopped and all completely freaked out not knowing what to do. One boy sat with Addis talking to him, even though he was unconscious, waiting on the ambulance. They said it didn’t seem real, like it wasn’t really happening. My son didn’t even call me until after they left because he was so out of it and not thinking straight. Every day after school they were at the hospital, whether they could see Addis that day or not, they were there. Addis remained in a coma for a couple of weeks or so and the doctors and nurses kept telling them all that it didn’t look good and that he wasn’t going to make it. These kids were not taking this well, especially the ones that seen it happen. The counselor at Sachse High School talked with them trying to help them deal with this and they helped each other also. Addis did wake up from the coma. Luckily it was not his time to go. The doctor said it was a miracle that Addis survived. I have always told my kids that everything in this world happens for a reason whether it be bad or good, and that I felt this horrible thing happened to make them see that they are not invincible. It’s okay to be a kid and have fun, but be smart about it. A vehicle is something to get you from point A to point B faster than walking, it’s not a toy. I hope they know that now. Everyone who reads this, wear your seat belt and slow down. Accidents do happen but some can be prevented. WE LOVE YOU ADDIS!!!!!
